Biography
Shaqúelle Whyte (b. Wolverhampton, UK 2000) received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Slade School of Fine Art, University College London (2022), and an MFA from the Royal College of Art, London (2023). He lives an works in London. Recent awards and residencies include the Herbert Seaborne Prize; the Black Sponsorship Scheme with Carl Kostyál Gallery; a residency at The Fores Project, London (2022); and the Denise Israel Scholarship, Rome Art Program (2021 as awell as the recipient of the Arts Council Collection, Frieze London 2024 Award. Selected group exhibitions include: Buffer, Guts Gallery, London (2022); Seasons in the City, curated by Artuner, Palazzo Capris, Turin, Italy (2022); Showstopper, Saatchi Gallery, London (2022); WHAT NOW?, PM/AM Gallery, London (2022) and Present Tense, Hauser & Wirth, Somerset (2024). In April-May 2024, Whyte had his first solo exhibition, Yute, you’re gonna be fine at the Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London and he was included in a live conversation with art historian Alayo Akinkugbe at Tate Britain. His first work for a public museum, a diptych Kevin, you're next (2024) was acquired from this exhibition by the Contemporary Art Society for The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent. Whyte’s work can now be found in the collections of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, The Arts Council, London; the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Wolverhampton Art Gallery; and Nasher Museum of Art, Durham, NC, USA.
