Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg to reveal a major new public artwork at Oxford North

The Length of a Moment is celebrated artist Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg's first permanent sculpture commission, comprising three striking bronze sculptures installed within Canalside Park's meadow landscape. Developed in response to the site's ecology and biodiversity, the work invites visitors to consider the rich and often overlooked relationships between art, nature and the environment.

Freely accessible to all, the work will grant Oxford a new cultural destination and adds to the city's reputation as a place where art, science and ecology meet. The commission is led by Thomas White Oxford, the development company of St John's College, delivered by Contemporary Art Society *Consultancy and cast by Pangolin Editions.

Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg (b.1982, London) is an artist who examines the changing relationship between people, nature and technology. Working across sculpture, installation, living gardens and digital tools, she has recreated the dawn chorus using artificial intelligence, reconstructed the smell of flowers driven to extinction by humans and simulated the wilding of Mars across a million years. In 2023 she won the European Commission's S+T+ARTS Grand Prize for Pollinator Pathmaker, a series of living artworks designed by an algorithm to support pollinating insects and planted at the Eden Project Cornwall, the Serpentine in London and the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin. She holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art and is a resident at Somerset House Studios, London. Her work has been shown at MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Royal Academy of Arts, and is held in collections including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Recent commissions include a large-scale video work for Google's Gradient Canopy building in California and an eight-metre tapestry for London's Design Museum.
